✓ Smart Job Fill fills fields, but never submits the application for you.

Smart Job Fill is designed to remove repetitive typing without taking control of the application away from you. It saves information in a reusable browser profile, looks for matching fields when you ask it to, and leaves the final review and submission in your hands.

The workflow has five main steps. You can begin by importing a résumé or by entering details manually. Either way, it is worth spending a few minutes reviewing the profile before using it on a real application.

Step 1: Import your résumé into the profile

Open Smart Job Fill, select the Profile tab and choose Load profile from CV / résumé. Select a text-based PDF résumé from your computer, then choose Extract and save details.

The résumé is read locally in the extension. Smart Job Fill attempts to identify supported information such as your name, email address, telephone number, location, professional links, skills and education. The selected PDF and its raw extracted text are not retained after processing.

PDF layouts vary considerably, so résumé import should be treated as a helpful starting point rather than a perfect conversion. Scanned image PDFs may not contain selectable text, and complex multi-column layouts can make some information difficult to recognise. If something is missing, enter it manually in the profile.

You do not have to import a résumé. You can skip this step and build the profile entirely by hand.

Step 2: Review and complete your reusable profile

Read through the imported information before using Autofill. Correct anything that was interpreted incorrectly and complete any useful empty categories.

The profile includes common application details and additional reusable answers. For example, you may want to save links to LinkedIn or a portfolio, your notice period, work authorisation information, or a general motivation answer that you can personalise later.

This review matters because autofill uses the profile values you have saved. Accurate source information makes the final application easier to check. Longer answers should remain adaptable: save a strong reusable foundation, then tailor it for the company and role instead of submitting identical wording everywhere.

If you regularly encounter a question Smart Job Fill does not yet understand, you can create or select a category and teach the extension what that wording means. Our guide to organising reusable job application answers explains how to build an answer library without making applications sound generic.

Step 3: Open the job application form

Visit the employer's application page and make sure the form has loaded. Then open Smart Job Fill from the Chrome toolbar. The Autofill tab is selected by default so the main action is immediately available.

Smart Job Fill works with accessible form controls on regular web pages. Application platforms use many different labels and technical structures, so some pages will be recognised more completely than others. Protected embedded frames and highly customised controls may prevent an extension from accessing certain fields.

The extension does not run continuously in the background. It waits for you to open it and request autofill on the current page.

Step 4: Choose “Autofill this page”

Select Autofill this page. Smart Job Fill scans supported fields, combines their labels and attributes, and compares them with the shared field catalogue, learned question examples and any mappings you have saved for that website.

Only matching empty fields with saved profile values are populated. A full-name field, for example, can be derived from the saved first and last names. The extension also triggers the input events modern application forms commonly use to notice that a value has changed.

Fields that cannot be matched confidently may appear under Teach Smart Job Fill. You can assign the question to an existing profile category or create a new one. That choice is remembered locally and can help recognise similar wording later.

For a broader explanation of this category matching, read how job application autofill extensions work.

Step 5: Review every value and submit it yourself

Autofill is the beginning of the final check, not the end of the application. Read the entire form after it has been filled.

Confirm that contact details, dates, links and location information are correct. Look for fields that remained empty, and pay particular attention to questions whose meaning depends on the role or employer. Personalise motivation, experience and salary answers where necessary.

Smart Job Fill does not press the application's submit button. You decide whether the completed form is accurate and whether it is ready to send. The safe job application autofill guide contains a more detailed review checklist.

What happens on the next application?

Your saved profile and learned mappings remain in local Chrome extension storage. On another application, open the extension and run Autofill again. Common details can be reused immediately, while unfamiliar questions can be taught as you encounter them.

Over time, the repetitive parts of applying become a shorter routine: open the form, fill recognised fields, handle anything unique and review. You still make the important decisions, but you spend less effort typing the same information repeatedly.
